Southeast Asian Resources for Culture and Health Program (SEARCH)

This newly created SEARCH program is designed to serve the needs of a growing Southeast Asian community in Greater Lowell. The program targets three growing groups of Southeast Asians: Cambodians, Laotians, and Vietnamese. Currently, SEARCH has five small projects within its wings:

1-Asian Pacific Partners for Empowerment, Advocacy, and Leadership [APPEAL] of the Association of Asian Pacific Health Organizations [AAPCHO]: This is a contract between LCHC and APPEAL to work on designing Cambodian smoking education and a public service announcement. This program is scheduled for completion in March’08.

2-MDPH Chronic Disease Self Management Program: Started in late November’07, this program helps patients manage their diseases through Stanford Model Chronic Disease Self Management Methods – Possible funding until 2012.

3-MDPH-Tobacco Expansion Grant: This program will expand LCHC’s capacity to track, record, and provide cessation services to help LCHC patients who smoke.

4-RSQ [Ready Set Quit]: MDPH Program is coming to Lowell in late March’08 to create awareness and assist Lowellians to stop smoking. It will provide two free weeks of NRT patches to people who live, work, and or go to school in the city of Lowell. The program is slated to close at the end of June’08.

5- SEA Community Needs Assessment & Program Development and manage Resource and Media Center

We hope the SEARCH Program expands to fulfill the needs of the growing groups of Southeast Asians in Greater Lowell, Massachusetts. With all your help from Lowell Community Health Center and our partners, we will outreach, educate, and create healthy communities throughout the city of Lowell.
