A Lowell native, Jack was employed by a small construction company, when he was diagnosed with arthritis that prevented him from doing his job. When he came into the Health Center, Jack was panicked that he could not pay the hefty costs of the surgery he needed. Maria in Health Benefits patiently walked him through the registration process, and Jack and his family are now insured. Quite often, support services like insurance counseling, medical interpreting, or chronic disease management are part of a patient visit to the Health Center. This year, it will take $200,000 to bridge the gap between what insurance covers and the essential services so many of our patients require like medical interpreters, health benefits counseling, and care management for families.
