Health Center Partners with UMass on $1M grant for asthma research
“Asthma can be exacerbated by numerous household triggers, from dust to pests like mice and cockroaches, according to University of Massachusetts Economics Research Professor Dave Turcotte. With a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Turcotte and his team will study how triggers associated with gas stoves can be mitigated for low-income seniors. Through Turcotte’s Healthy Homes Project, UMass Lowell researchers have worked with Lowell Community Health Center to help low-income children and seniors control their asthma.”

Lowell Community Health Center (Lowell CHC) CEO Susan West Levine was honored last week by the Commonwealth Institute (TCI) and the Boston Globe Magzine for leading one of the Commonwealth’s most noteworthy women-led businesses. This is the first time that Lowell CHC has been included on this list.

Lowell CHC Awarded Grant from GLHA
“The Greater Lowell Health Alliance revealed the findings of its latest Community Health Needs Assessment, emphasizing five key priorities: mental health, substance addiction, alcohol abuse, cancer and nutrition. To address these areas and more, the organization issued 12 grants totaling $185,000 to local health, housing and education organizations — including a $25k grant for Lowell CHC’s Community Health Education Center (CHEC).”

Now in it’s 5th year, the Winter Mixer is an event for the young, and the young at heart! Attended by more than 100 people, the evening is organized by our Developing Leaders Council — a group of committed young professionals learning about nonprofit board service and serving as Health Center ambassadors in the community. The event is a fundraiser for Teen BLOCK, our youth development program.
Creating a healing canvas in Lowell Community Health Center and supporting our city’s creative economy
ArtUp is a collaboration between local artists and patrons to support the health center and provide a different kind of health care environment celebrating the healing value of art for patients and staff.
