Insurance and Payment

If you would like to apply for health insurance coverage, you should speak with one of our Health Benefits Advisors before your visit with your medical provider. Health Benefits Advisors can help you with the application process and determine your eligibility for affordable health insurance plans.

Lowell Community Health Center staff can assist you with applying for MassHealth, Children’s Medical Security Plan, Marketplace Qualified Health Plans, and/or the Health Safety Net program to make sure that your family stays healthy.  

Reduced-cost (sliding fee scale) and free care is also available. Health Benefits Advisors are available at all Health Center sites to assist new and established patients with determining eligibility for insurance plans and programs.

You will need to bring the following information with you when you visit a Health Benefits Advisor:

  • Photo ID (driver’s license, passport etc.)
  • Proof of income (two weekly pay stubs or one bi-weekly pay stubs, income tax forms)
  • Proof of Immigration Status (legal permanent resident card, visa, asylum, etc.)
  • Proof of Citizenship (a photo ID along with a birth certificate or a passport)


Many private insurance plans are also accepted at the Health Center, and the list is growing every day. Among them are major plans such as Blue Cross Blue Shield and Harvard Pilgrim.
