Construction in Front of Lowell Community Health Center

The City of Lowell will be doing construction at the intersection of Jackson and Marston Streets, directly in front of the health center. The work will include the intersection, crosswalk, and nearby sidewalks.

Construction is currently expected to take place August 31 through November 7.

Lowell Community Health Center will remain open. Traffic and parking may be different during construction. Please allow extra time to park and arrive at least 15 minutes before your appointment so you have time to check in.

Susan West Levine Named Mass League Board Chair

BOSTON – August 26, 2026– The Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers (the Mass League) is proud to announce Susan West Levine as the next Chair of its Board of Directors. Levine, the CEO of Lowell Community Health Center (Lowell CHC), previously served as Second Vice Chair from 2024 to 2026.

During her decade of leadership at Lowell CHC, Levine has strengthened access to high-quality care for the Greater Lowell community, especially its underserved populations. Under Levine’s leadership, Lowell CHC expanded primary care and added dental and vision services, while also implementing a COVID-19 vaccine rollout that broke down barriers to ensure widespread uptake. Her commitment to access and stewardship of the organization contributed to the health center being named a Top 100 Women-Led Business for seven consecutive years by Boston Globe Magazine and the Commonwealth Institute.

“Sue Levine is the kind of leader our movement needs as we confront an evolving and challenging health care landscape,” said Michael Curry, President & CEO of the Mass League. “With her long record of expanding access to care, her commitment to health center patients, and her innovative spirit, she will make a meaningful impact in helping the Mass League strengthen health center sustainability and protect comprehensive care in the communities we serve.”

One example of her commitment to innovation is the establishment of the Lowell Community Health Center | Tufts Medicine | Family Medicine Residency, only the second to be housed in a Massachusetts health center. Amid a statewide primary care staffing shortage, the residency is a primary care workforce pipeline that feeds directly to Lowell CHC and its patients, many of whom have unmet health care needs. Residents train alongside Lowell Community Health Center physician faculty who also serve as faculty of Tufts University School of Medicine, combining academic strength with meaningful connection to patients and the community.

“Primary care access in Massachusetts is already under tremendous strain, and community health centers are caring for patients with increasingly complex needs while competing for a workforce that simply is not large enough to meet demand,” said Levine. “As Board Chair, I look forward to working alongside health center leaders, partners, and advocates to help shape a stronger primary care system for the communities we serve. At Lowell Community Health Center, everything we have accomplished has been possible because of the commitment of our staff, patients, Board members, and community partners working together. Lowell CHC Celebrates Community and Vision For the Future

Celebration marks residency launch and highlights new vision: Healthy People. Stronger Communities.

Lowell Community Health Center brought together neighbors, patients, staff, partners, elected officials, and supporters for its 2026 Community Celebration. Held during National Health Center Week and the City of Lowell’s bicentennial, the event celebrated the community while looking ahead to the future of health care in Greater Lowell.

For more than 55 years, Lowell Community Health Center has been part of the Greater Lowell community. Today, nearly 40,000 people receive care at the health center each year, and nearly 500 employees provide medical, dental, behavioral health, vision, pharmacy, and other services.

During the celebration, Lowell Community Health Center unveiled its new vision statement:

Healthy People. Stronger Communities.

The vision connects individual health with the strength of the community. It reflects Lowell Community Health Center’s mission to advance health by delivering exceptional, compassionate, personalized care and, together with our community, improve well-being for everyone. I also reflects the health center’s commitment to supporting a strong local health care workforce.

“Healthy people have access to care and they have physicians who know them and understand their needs,” said Lowell Community Health Center CEO Susan West Levine. “Stronger communities have the healthcare workforce they need to thrive. That means training physicians here and encouraging them to build their careers here. We cannot do either of those things alone. Together with our community, we can improve health and well-being for everyone. This residency is a powerful example of what can happen when patients, providers, educators, public officials, funders, partners, and supporters come together around a shared purpose.”

One example of that commitment is the recent launch of the Lowell Community Health Center | Tufts Medicine | Family Medicine Residency, a new partnership designed to expand access to primary care and help develop the next generation of community-based physicians. The first class of six residents began training in June and will care for patients while learning the health center’s team-based, community-focused model.

Throughout the evening, speakers celebrated the patients, staff, partners, supporters, and community leaders who have helped shape Lowell CHC’s impact and whose continued partnership will help advance its vision for the future.
